The Dodgers were able to walk away from Pittsburgh with a series sweep over the Pirates. But they did it in an odd fashion with the rain ruining any chance of a comeback for the struggling Pirates. The game was officially called in the 8th inning after a monsoon-type of rain came through PNC Park.
Julio Urias got the ball for the Dodgers and went 6 innings while allowing 3 earned runs. Urias struck out 5 and did not issue a walk, but he did give up a 2-run bomb to Bryan Reynolds in the bottom of the 4th.
On the offensive side of things, Mookie Betts got the Dodgers going early with a leadoff solo homerun. It was Betts’ first homerun since April 18th against the Diamondbacks. Urias also drove home a pair of runs in the 3rd inning when he singled with the bases loaded.
The Dodgers bullpen had a light load in this one since they only needed Phil Bickford in the bottom of the 7th. The game was called in the top of the 8th when the rain started to come through. Bickford tossed a scoreless 7th and struck out 1.
