Rosenthal: Donaldson sweepstakes update; Lindor talks reaching critical stage; Mets not too motivated on Marte (The Athletic)


Some notes from around baseball, based upon information gathered from major-league sources:

• Don’t count the Twins out of the Josh Donaldson sweepstakes just yet.

Donaldson, 34, has multiple four-year offers, with both the Twins and Nationals believed to be at that level. If the Twins sign Donaldson, they will move Miguel Sanó from third to first base.

The Dodgers and Braves remain in the mix for Donaldson, but both clubs might be reluctant to go to four years. A $100 million guarantee for Donaldson appears possible, and the competition for him might even drive the price higher.

• The Francisco Lindor talks appear to be reaching a critical stage.

The Indians are telling clubs interested in trading for Lindor that they want each team’s best and final offers so they can make an assessment over the weekend.
